ODOR RECOGNITION TEST

The Odor Recognition Test (ORT) verifies the dog's recognition of the target odor(s) used in trials.

The odor is hidden in one of twelve identical boxes.

Passing an ORT requires a dog "to identify the location of the target odor and the handler to correctly call an alert . . . within a three-minute time period."  (NACSW Rule Book 10.4)

Dogs must pass the ORT for each target odor in order to be eligible to compete in a trial.
